Straight answers for owners, heirs and executors of paintings by Franz A. Bischoff. If your question is not here, call Steven Stern Fine Arts at (310) 570-5679.

Who buys Franz A. Bischoff paintings?

Steven Stern Fine Arts in Los Angeles buys and consigns Franz A. Bischoff paintings, from roses and gardens to the Arroyo Seco, the coast and the desert. His buyers are mainly collectors of California Impressionism, to whom the gallery offers works privately.

How do I sell a Franz A. Bischoff painting?

Start by sending photographs of the front, the back and the signature, with the measurements, through the seller inquiry or by email to StevenSternFineArts@gmail.com. Steven Stern Fine Arts reviews the painting and explains your options: outright purchase, consignment or a private sale.

What is my Franz A. Bischoff painting worth?

It depends on the individual painting: subject, size, date, condition and history all count. Our guide, How much is a Franz A. Bischoff painting worth?, explains each factor. For an opinion on your own painting, send photographs and measurements.

Is this the same Franz Bischoff who painted porcelain?

Yes. Franz A. Bischoff was famous as a porcelain painter of roses before he settled in California in 1906 and turned to oil painting.

What should I photograph on the back?

Everything: labels, stamps, inscriptions, titles and dates. Leave them in place.

Will my name or the price be published?

Yes. Inquiries are confidential. Owner names, buyer names and prices are never published on this site.

Do you come to see paintings?

Steven Stern Fine Arts works with owners across the country from Los Angeles. After a first look at photographs, the gallery can arrange to see an important painting in person.

Should I clean or reframe the painting first?

No. Please leave the painting as it is. Amateur cleaning can damage the paint for good, and old frames, labels and backings can carry useful history.

How do I know my painting is by Bischoff?

Signature, handling, materials and documented history are weighed together. Send clear photographs and the gallery will tell you whether it deserves closer study.

Do you buy paintings by other artists?

Yes. Steven Stern Fine Arts buys and consigns paintings by many Early California and Western American artists. See californiapaintings.com, or westernartexpert.com for Western art.
